Marvels Black Panther & African Culture Lesson - Black History - Microsoft Digital Resources
This Black Panther Africa Geography lesson is a student favorite and is perfect for Black History Month activities! In this lesson, students will examine “Wakanda” to learn about Africa’s cultural diversity and the real African traits that inspired Marvel's "Black Panther" movie. The activities are engaging for students, and the guided 5-E format makes it easy for you to use. Fill-in notes accompany the lesson.
Start with a “Sorting Hat” warm-up to address common misconceptions about Africa. Then, explore how the filmmaker blended traits from various African groups to create the imaginary nation of “Wakanda.” This will be followed by an investigation activity that challenges your class to identify connections between the film and the real world. A printable “walk-around” poster version is also included for in-class instruction.
Finally, assess learning through a fun activity where students write a recipe explaining how to create “Wakanda.” Students do not need to have seen the movie, but in my experience, most have and love making these connections! Your purchase includes both print and interactive digital versions of the materials, making it suitable for traditional in-class learning as well as digital 1:1 classrooms. Everything you need is included!
