Forming a Government Intro Lesson - Island Challenge Activity - Print & Digital
No rules would be awesome! Why do we need a government? This lesson examines why governments are necessary and the challenges faced when forming a government. The activities are engaging for students, and the guided 5-E format is easy for you to use! Everything you need is included!
Start with a “Password” warm-up that introduces the concept of “government,” then present key ideas about the role of government in society. Fill-in notes accompany the lesson. Next, the “Island Challenge” allows students to experience the difficulties of establishing a government. As a group of castaways on a deserted island, they must work together to establish a new society and survive. Finally, check for understanding and evaluate learning with an “Exit Ticket” activity.
