Government, Revolutions & Human Rights in China History Lesson - MS Digital Resources
This lesson on Chinese history and human rights explores the various governments and revolutions in China during the 20th century. The activities are engaging for students, and the guided 5-E format is easy for you to implement.
First, kick off with a “Name It” warm-up to test their knowledge of human rights. Then, introduce key vocabulary and historical events, accompanied by fill-in notes that support the lesson. Following this, the “A History Dilemma” activity examines the conditions leading up to the 1989 pro-democracy protests and the Tiananmen Square incident. Discuss the iconic “Tank Man” photo and listen to the photographer’s story.
Finally, challenge students to review the UN’s “Universal Declaration of Human Rights” to identify the privileges denied to citizens in modern-day China. The lesson includes both printable and interactive digital materials, making it suitable for traditional in-class or digital 1:1 classroom settings. Everything you need is provided!
