Desertification of the Sahara Desert & Africa Geography Lesson - Google Digital Resources
This African geography lesson explores the causes and effects of desertification on the land and people in Africa’s Sahel region, located south of the Sahara Desert. The activities are engaging for students, and the guided 6-E format is easy for teachers to use!
Begin with a “Say Something…” warm-up, followed by a “Fact or Fiction” activity to test their knowledge of the Sahara. Fill-in notes are provided to accompany the lesson. Challenge students to complete a cause/effect/solution chart after reading a passage about desertification.
A “Big Ideas” activity examines strategies to combat desertification, including Africa’s “Great Green Wall” initiative. Finally, assess learning with an exit ticket quiz. Your purchase includes both print and interactive digital versions of the materials, making it suitable for traditional classroom settings or digital 1:1 classrooms. Everything you need is included!
