This engaging DBQ (Document-Based Question) activity encourages students to investigate graphs, charts, and maps related to OPEC to understand its influence on the global oil supply and pricing. A printable poster version is also provided for in-class instruction.

In this scenario, the President needs assistance in deciding how to address the current price of oil. Should the U.S. increase fracking operations to compete in the "Gas Nations" war against OPEC? Students will examine data files, identify the pros and cons, and evaluate the evidence. After their analysis, they will write a final report recommending the best strategy for the nation.

Students must decide whether it is more beneficial to drill our shale fields or to maintain the current relationship with OPEC. A fill-in rubric is included to facilitate easy grading. Both print and interactive digital versions of the materials are provided, making them suitable for traditional classroom settings or digital 1:1 classrooms. Everything needed for the activity is included!
