What is Culture? Lesson - Cultural Identity & Traits Activities - Google Digital Resources
**What is Culture?** This engaging introductory lesson invites your class to explore the meaning of culture, compare cultural traits from around the world, and understand the concept of cultural identity. The activities are designed to be enjoyable for students, and the guided, 5-E format is easy for you to implement!
Start with an interactive warm-up activity titled “What in the World?”, featuring Manu Martian, an alien who has crash-landed on Earth and is confused by what he sees. Through Manu's observations, students will examine culture and its traits, before being introduced to key vocabulary and concepts. Accompanying fill-in notes will support the lesson.
Next, students will complete a “Culture Survey” to reflect on their own cultural traits. Finally, assess their understanding with a creative activity in which they design a “Martian” cultural landscape. Both printable and interactive digital versions of all materials are included, making this lesson suitable for traditional in-class settings or digital 1:1 classrooms. Everything you need is provided!
