Intro to the PEGS Factors Guided Lesson and Fun Activities - Print & Digital
This fun lesson introduces the PEGS factors: Political, Economic, Geographic, and Social. Social Studies curricula can change significantly from year to year, but the PEGS factors serve as common themes that unite all Social Studies classes. These ideas are often referred to as PESTLE, STEEP, or PEST. The activities are engaging for students, and the guided 5-E format is easy for you to use! Everything you need is included!
Start with a “Memory Game” warm-up, then challenge your class to identify and classify items in a cooperative “Sort It” activity to visualize the concept of PEGS factors. Next, students create unique “Picto-Words” for each PEGS, which also make great displays for bulletin boards and hallways. A “Find the PEGS” video activity encourages them to identify examples and can be adapted to most Social Studies videos, allowing you to use it multiple times throughout the year. Finally, assess learning with an exit ticket quiz.
