This Thanksgiving lesson explores the holiday’s history and traditions using primary and secondary sources. The activities are engaging for students, and the guided 5-E format is easy for you to use! Everything you need is included!


Begin with a fun "Fact or Fiction?" warm-up that tests students' knowledge about Thanksgiving. Then, discuss the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday with "A Little History“ review. Fill-in notes accompany the lesson. A "My 5 W's of Thanksgiving" activity allows students to share their family customs and traditions. Next, a “Big Ideas” review examines identifying differences between primary and secondary sources of information. Finally, an investigation activity challenges your class to examine and classify primary and secondary sources of information related to Thanksgiving.
