Dropping the Atomic Bomb World War II Lesson | Investigate Japan WW2 | Microsoft
This lesson explores the decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan to bring an end to World War II. The activities are engaging for students, and the guided 6-E format is easy for you to use! Start with a “Memory Game - Japan” warm-up activity, then assess their knowledge about the origins of Godzilla. Discuss vocabulary and key concepts, using fill-in notes that accompany the lesson. An investigation activity challenges students to examine opposing viewpoints regarding the use of atomic bombs in warfare. There is also a printable “walk-around” poster version to encourage movement in your class. Students will use their evidence to support both perspectives on the decision to drop nuclear weapons on Hiroshima and Nagasaki: "A Necessary Evil" and "A Terrible Mistake." Assess learning with a writing prompt that asks, “Should nuclear weapons ever be used again in a global conflict?” Print & interactive, digital versions of the materials are included. Made for traditional in-class learning or digital 1:1 classrooms. Everything you need is included!
